GREEN HERO - MARY E. THOMPSON
New friendships, savings and
convenience are reasons why UH Green
Hero Mary E. Thompson rides the
METRO daily.
“Saving gas, saving money, it’s a
win-win for me,” said Thompson. “You
really need to try it. Let somebody
else do the driving and you sit back
and relax.”
The UH Records Retention Manager of
32 years has been navigating to UH
by riding METRO for the past two
years. Her trip starts at the METRO
#222 Grand Parkway Park and Ride in
Katy transfers onto the #77 METRO
from the Downtown Transit Center and
hops on the Cougar Line Tan Route
from the Eastwood Transit Center.
Instead of worrying about finding a
spot in the parking lot, she enjoys
the camaraderie while riding METRO.
“When I’m not on the bus, they worry
about me,” she said. “They’ll ask me
if everything is OK or if I was sick
– even the bus drivers (both UH and
METRO).”
The University of Houston is making
it easier to ride METRO. Students,
faculty and staff can now sign up
and add money to their METRO Q-card
at the Welcome Center at the UH
campus. Enjoy convenience, meet new
people and save. Check out uh.edu/parking
for more information on how you can
be a Green Commuter just like Mary
E. Thompson.
“I’m glad I have the opportunity to
ride it.”
