EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT - SAMEER KAPILESHWARI
Sameer
Kapileshwari is the new director of
Utility Services in Plant
Operations. He’s been employed with
the University of Houston since
April 2002. Recently, his careful
examination of UH’s gas consumption
bills resulted in the discovery of
several billing errors made by the
company. His efforts helped UH save
a staggering $1.3 million dollars.
What are your day-to-to duties?
I oversee all activities of
mechanical, electrical, building
energy-management controls, fire
alarm and Central Utility Plant.
Other duties include construction
and design reviews, energy
conservation, retro-commissioning,
utility procurement, bill payment
and utility billing for auxiliary
buildings.
What do you enjoy most about your
work?
I enjoy being surrounded by the
vibrant University environment. I
also enjoy being able to incorporate
green and sustainable features in
designs and operations while finding
ways to save money.
What is one of the biggest
challenges?
It can be challenging sometimes to
determine ways to save energy while
working with and maintaining older
equipment and systems.
What is something you wish people
knew about Utility Services?
I wish more people acknowledged and
appreciated the hard work of our
dedicated, enthusiastic, motivated
staff, their 24/7 presence and their
genuine desire to solve the space
comfort and safety concerns.
Name several things you enjoy
doing in your spare time.
Besides spending time with my family
(especially our 2 young children),
in my spare time I enjoy running and
training for marathons and
ultra-marathons, ballroom dancing,
and travelling.
