‘Monster’ wins Art of Recycling contest
UH Office of Sustainability has announced the winning entries in
its Art of Recycling contest.
After the votes were cast, “Monster” came in first place. The
piece earned its creator, Ursula Smith, a $30 gift card to
Barnes & Noble. Second place and a $20 gift card went to Azizat
Ojelade’s “Droid.” Placing third was “Love Exists” by Jonathan
Quach, who gets a $10 gift card.
“The purpose of this contest was to allow students to have fun
and to get them to think creatively about ways that we can
reduce our waste,” said Leah Wolfthal, program coordinator for
the Office of Sustainability.
The Art of Recycling contest took place March 19 in Butler Plaza
during the RecycleMania Olympics, which transformed the area
into a playground of fun activities and games. The art contest
drew 10 participants.
After the contestants finished, their artwork remained on
display for an hour in Butler Plaza for people to come by and
cast their votes for their favorites entries. A total of 50
votes were cast.
