STUDENTS WIN GIFT CARDS FOR RECYCLED ART
Ten
students competed in the Art of Recycling challenge during Green
UH’s RecycleMania celebration in Butler Plaza.
The Art of Recycling Contest and RecycleMania Olympics event
took place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 22 to empower
students to have fun with recycling and encourage support for
the national RecycleMania competition. The eight-week national
RecycleMania competition challenges schools and universities to
increase awareness and recycling efforts each spring.
During the Art of Recycling contest, the students created
artwork using recycled materials such as cereal boxes, aluminum
cans and plastic containers. After all the artwork was
completed, students voted on their favorites through ballots.
The first place prize of a $75 Best Buy gift card went to “UH
Cougar” created by Gaurav Chugh and Mani Chopra Chugh. Samantha
Velasquez won second place and a $50 Best Buy gift card for her
artwork “Hula Lady.” Third place and a $25 gift card went to
Crystal Gonzalez for her creation “Recycle Head.”
Congratulations to all our artists! For photos from the contest,
