PTS PREPARES FOR CONSTRUCTION OF 3RD GARAGE
Parking and
Transportation Services is working
to finalize plans to accommodate
displaced parkers during the
construction of the Stadium Parking
Garage.
To be located in lot 15D, the
Stadium Parking Garage is scheduled
to break ground August 1, 2011, with
an anticipated completion date of
May 1, 2012. The new garage will be
the largest garage on campus, with
parking for 2,300 vehicles.
In order to facilitate the
construction of this garage, 1,100
spaces in parking lot 15D will be
taken out of service beginning this
summer and will remain unavailable
for parking until construction is
complete. Parking and Transportation
Services has already identified two
areas for expansion to accommodate
many of the displaced parkers.
Lot 16D, at the northeast corner of
Cullen/Elgin, will be expanded over
the summer to accommodate additional
vehicles. In addition, plans are to
construct temporary lots along Leek
Street, also near the corner of
Cullen/Elgin. Students, faculty and
staff are also encouraged to utilize
the parking lots at Energy Research
Park. Alternative transportation
options are also being encouraged to
help decrease demand. Students
receive a 50% discount on METRO
fares when using a student Q-Card,
and can take advantage of any of the
six local lines with stops near
Robertson Stadium. Students, faculty
and staff interested in joining a
carpool or van pool can contact
Parking and Transportation Services
for assistance in locating options
in their area.
Parking and Transportation Services
has developed a communications plan
to provide continuously updated
information on this project, and
will be holding information sessions
in April to assist those concerned
about parking options during
construction.
