“MR. ROBOTO” WINS ART OF RECYCLING CONTEST
Trash
turned to fortune for Chris Lopez,
the winner of the Art of Recycling
Contest. The computer science
junior, along with the help of his
friends, created “Mr. Roboto” to win
a $75 Best Buy gift card.
“I was shocked when I received the
call about us winning,” Lopez said.
“I had no reason to believe that Mr.
Roboto would be something other
students liked.”
Lopez and his friends were talking
outside of the UC Underground when
they were asked by a member of Green
UH if they would like to try to make
art out of recyclables and win a
prize.
“We did it because it sounded fun,
and we were actually a bit curious
to see if we could do something a
bit creative,” he said.
Green UH provided recyclables,
markers, hot glue and other craft
supplies for students participating
in the RecycleMania event. Ten works
of art were created with Mr. Roboto
taking the top prize after students
judged the creations in the MD
Anderson Library lobby on March 23.
Second place, winning a $50 gift
certificate, went to “Recyclable Me”
by Andrew Thai. The third place
prize of a $25 gift certificate was
won by Kylie DeFrance for “Stay
Puff.”
The winners will receive their
prizes during the RecycleMania
Closing Ceremony on April 6 at the
UC Satellite from 11:30 a.m. to 1
p.m. Artists can take home their
creations or give it to Green UH to
display in the Cougar Card office.
