The UH System Board of Regents has signed off on a proposal for next academic year's parking permit prices.
The plan presented to the Board during its Feb. 23 meeting requested a slight increase for the rates and included the introduction of two new permit types: the Evening/Weekend Permit and the Remote Campus Permit.
Created to provide a better, low-cost option for those who only park on campus in the evenings and/or weekends, the Evening/Weekend Permit is a completely new option that will be valid in all ungated faculty/staff, student and remote campus lots after 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday. Individuals with other permit types will still be permitted to park on campus during these times, and so it will not be necessary for them to purchase this permit in addition to any other they might own.
The Remote Campus Permit is a renamed, reimagined version of the soon-to-be-discontinued Economy permit.
"The change in permit name is our department's way of better representing the transition of all main campus economy lots into student lots," said Bob Browand, director of Parking and Transportation Services. "This transition, which is part of our team's 10-year plan, will be complete at the start of the fall 2017 semester. At that time, all Remote Campus Permits will be valid only at the ERP."
Remote Campus Permit holders will be allowed to park in main campus lots after 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.
Faculty/Staff permits for the upcoming school year will be available for purchase beginning in late March, while student permit options will go on sale in early April.
