In conjunction with this year’s Sustainability Fest, the UH Office of Sustainability is conducting a sustainable poetry contest. 

Open to students, faculty and staff, the contest aims to reinforce the festival’s theme that sustainability is much more than recycling.   

“From social to environmental and even financial, sustainability involves many aspects of living,” said Sarah Kelly, program manager for the UH Office of Sustainability. “We want people to touch on that theme through their poems.”  

Climate change, social justice and food security are just some of the suggested topics participants may choose to cover. 

All poems must be the original work of the submitter and should be emailed to sustainability@uh.edu by 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24. Submissions are limited to one per person. 

Three finalists will be selected and each winner will have their poem, along with their name and picture, published on the UH Office of Sustainability’s website. 

Each winner, or a representative of their choice, will be invited to read the poem on stage at Sustainability Fest, where they will receive a $50 Visa gift card. The fest is set to take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at Lynn Eusan Park.
