Waste management, single-stream sorting facilities, composting and recycled products are some of the topics audiences can learn more about at the next sustainability meetup.

The meetup will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 8 in the Health and Biomedical Sciences Building, Room 186. It will feature a panel of experts on recycling, hazardous waste and composting. The audience will be invited to ask questions and participate in a discussion with the panel. A light meal will be provided with vegan and gluten-free options.

Panelists will include Keith Koski, warehouse manager at the City of Houston Reuse Warehouse; John Ferguson, founder of Nature’s Way Resources; John McNeely, University of Houston environmental protection officer; Carson Jarnagin, sales manager at Veolia North America; Jessica Montes, major account representative at Waste Management; and Richard Kattar, managing director at Swordfish Consulting – Recycling Management. Zac Trahan, statewide program director for the Texas Campaign for the Environment, will serve as moderator.

The March meetup is the third of four events hosted by the UH Office of Sustainability taking place during the national RecycleMania competition, which continues until April 2. The competition invites colleges across the U.S. and Canada to benchmark and improve efforts to reduce or eliminate waste. The Office of Sustainability will close out RecyleMania activities with an electronics recycling drive on April 1.
