Administration and Finance Departmental Awards

Employees of the Division of Administration and Finance provide unique support services for the entire academic community. In an effort to provide recognition for meritorious service exhibited by Division employees, the following awards have been implemented.

Award Descriptions

The PEP Award will be awarded to one employee from our division who exemplifies Professionalism, Enthusiasm, Pride, and Service in sustained performance. The definition of the PEP award is as follows:

Professionalism: The conduct, aim, or qualities that characterize or mark a profession or a professional person.

Enthusiasm: Strong excitement of feeling; ardor; something inspiring, zeal or fervor.

Pride: The quality or state of being proud; a reasonable or justifiable self-respect. (When you do anything, do it with pride.)

Service: Work performed by one that serves; help, use, benefit; contribution for the welfare of others.

The winner of this award will receive a plaque and a $500 stipend.

Intent: Recognizes an employee who consistently exhibits a friendly and positive image for the division, or through sustained voluntary service promotes the welfare of others in the department, university or community.

Criteria: Nomination should include a description of the manner and performance exhibited by the employee and the resulting impact on the division, the action or service performed and the benefit to the recipient. 

The winner of this award receives a plaque and a special lunch with Senior Vice President Jim McShan and two guests at the restaurant of their choice.

Intent: Recognizes an individual (outside the Division of Administration and Finance), company or organization that has demonstrated outstanding support to the division.

Criteria: Nomination should describe the contribution and the impact on the division.

The winner of this award will receive a plaque and a gift card for $100 in catering for the winner’s department.

Intent: Recognizes two or more employees in a department involved in a program or project that has a positive impact on the university and assists the university in advancement in one of the key performance indicators from the Progress Card: national competitiveness; student success; competitive resources; or national and local recognition.

Criteria: Program/project must originate from a department in the division. Nomination should include a description of the program/project, the interaction of team members and the impact on the university.

Winners of this award will receive an individual plaque and a sundae party.

Intent: Recognizes a department who performed in an extraordinary manner or made an outstanding contribution to a department in enhancing efficiency or reducing costs while expending minimal resources.

Criteria: Nomination should describe the contribution and the manner in which resources were saved or process efficiency gained.

Winners of this award will receive an individual plaque and a special lunch party.

Intent: Recognizes an employee who exhibits superior work performance, while exemplifying a positive and cooperative attitude on a day-to-day "behind the scenes" basis without being showy or spotlighted.

Criteria: Managerial positions are not eligible for this award. Nomination should describe performance and contribution to the department.

The winner of this award will receive a plaque and a $25 gift card for the UH Bookstore.

Intent: This award is typically given to someone who has implemented a wide variety of sustainability efforts and been involved for several years in this work. Sustainability Champions are individuals who, by practice and belief, support the ideals of sustainable practice and use a triple bottom-line approach to problems and issues. The triple bottom-line approach includes looking at sustainability through the lens of the social, environmental, and financial. Champions will have demonstrated that they support this philosophy in word and deed, and can be looked to as leaders in campus sustainability.

Criteria: Managerial positions are not eligible for this award. Nomination should describe performance and contribution to the University around sustainability.

The winner of this award will receive a plaque and a $25 gift card for the UH Bookstore.
