International Application Options

International Freshman: If you are a citizen of another country and have never attended a college or university and have completed the equivalent of 12 years of more of elementary and secondary schooling based on your country’s educational system, you should apply as an International Freshman.

International Transfer: If you are a citizen of another country and have completed more than one year of full-time, university –level study at a college or university located overseas or in the U.S.  and interested in undergraduate admission at the University of Houston, you should apply as an International Transfer.

International Graduate: If you are a citizen of another country and have earned a 4-year baccalaureate degree or higher degree from an accredited college of university, equivalent of a United States bachelor’s degree, you are eligible to apply to a graduate program as an International Graduate.

International Post-Baccalaureate: If you are a citizen of another country and have earned a 4-year baccalaureate degree or higher degree from an accredited college of university equivalent of a United States bachelor’s degree and you are seeking an additional undergraduate degree or interested in taking additional undergraduate coursework, you should apply as an international transfer student.

English Language Proficiency Requirement: All applicants who did not graduate from native English-speaking countries are required to provide adequate proof of their English proficiency before receiving admission to the university. For more on how to fulfill this requirement please click here.
