If you are attending a New Student Conference, you must register your guests online when you sign up for your conference. You can log in to your myUH self-service account, navigate to your registration page, make changes and then click the Updates button at the bottom of the page.
Parents and guardians are welcome at all conferences and, if attending, will follow a separate schedule of events. Because of the nature of the program, it is not appropriate for anyone except parents/guardians or spouses to attend as a guest. Friends or siblings are not allowed to accompany students. The exception would be an older sibling who is acting in a guardian capacity; however, in this case the sibling would attend Family Member Orientation and would not be with the student during any time parents and students are not ordinarily together.
Houston is served by two major airports. Hobby Airport is approximately 20 miles closer ($23 by cab) to the University of Houston than is the George Bush Intercontinental Airport. If you are traveling by car from I-45 North, take the Texas Spur 5 exit. Turn right on University Drive. From I-45 South, take the Elgin/Cullen/Lockwood exit. Turn left on Elgin and left at the second light. Turn right on University Drive. Keep straight to Entrance 1 at Calhoun Road.
Conference Check-In is located on the second floor of the Hilton University of Houston Hotel on campus.
O-Team Leaders will be available to guide you around campus during your New Student Conference. Maps are available online if you would like to look at one before you come.
You have a complimentary/free parking option:
Students and guests attending the conference may park at no cost in Lots A & C, Entrance 20, at Spur 5 and University Drive, with the parking permit found here. Please print the permit and display it on your vehicle’s dashboard.
Non-complimentary parking options include:
Park in the UH parking garage (located at Entrance 1 at the intersection of Calhoun Road and University Drive); the first half hour is free and then an hourly rate is applied.
Yes, this exam is required prior to attending a New Student Conference, even if you already have credit for a math course. You will not be able to enroll in math- or science-related courses without a score on file. Having a score on file will fulfill the math placement requirement. After taking the exam, if you have questions about your Math Placement Exam or which math course you should take, you will consult your major advisor during your New Student Conference for more details.
Transfer credit will be evaluated before your ART date. You will be able to register for classes at ART based on your transfer credit.
Accessible rooms are available for students or guests who have disabilities. Please call Chris Miller at 713-743-6062 for more information.
We are not able to offer housing to your family members and guests. Guests accompanying students can take advantage of the Hilton University of Houston Hotel on campus for overnight accommodations or make reservations at any of the surrounding hotels in the area. For more information about the Hilton University of Houston Hotel on campus, please visit the Hilton Reservation Page.
Local hotels are able to provide discounts to UH visitors. Please visit the University of Houston Travel portal for a list of participating hotels.
You may be required to fulfill two separate testing requirements before you can register for a conference.
- Texas Success Initiative (TSI): Learn how to pass this requirement. If you need to complete this requirement, you will have a TSI HOLD in your myUH self-service account.
- Math Placement Exam: Learn how to pass this requirement. TSI Exemption does not exempt you from the Math Placement Exam.

Students who score below the minimum passing level on one or more sections of the initial assessment test are required to enroll in appropriate developmental education course(s) as assigned by an advisor in Exploratory Studies. You will meet with your advisor at your New Student Conference.
If you can receive credit at UH for courses you took in high school, you definitely want to know before you arrive at your conference and begin enrolling n classes. Learn more about Credit by Exam or contact University Testing Services for more information.
