Understanding UH Business
Course Outline for Spring, ‘08
Understanding UH Business is
a seven-week core course
designed with the UH
business staff in mind. When
working or processing a
transaction, have you ever
asked yourself…
- Why can’t I just
choose any account to
process a voucher?
- What is budget
checking and why is it
necessary?
- What is a liability?
What’s an asset?
- Why is it important
to read a balance sheet?
- What is the
importance of fund
codes?
- Who is Accounts
Payable and why do they
tell me what to do?
- What’s the Finance
department’s role here
at UH? What’s my role?
How do we work together?
- How can I optimize
my use of the
university’s financial
system?
- Why do we have so
many mandatory training
classes?
- Why are there so
many administrative
rules and processes and
who makes all of these
rules anyway?
If you or your staff ever
wanted to know the answers
to the above questions, then
the Understanding UH
Business seminar will
provide a comprehensive
explanation and a unique
perspective on these
subjects. The class
instructors will walk
participants through how
transactions flow, who
processes them, why
transactions and the
procedures for them exist,
and what is the global
effect – both internally and
externally-of these
transactions that flow
through various departments
and the PeopleSoft System.
The spring course will meet
in the HR training room #341
(3rd floor) of the
McElhinney building every
Friday (seven consecutive
Fridays total) from 9am
until noon.
