FREE LECTURE ‘DECISIONS UNDER SEVERE UNCERTAINTY’ AT UH LAUNCHES
ABRAMSON CENTER SYMPOSIUM

An introductory-level lecture about Info-Gap Decision Theory will be presented by Yakov Ben-Haim at the University of Houston at 9 a.m., Monday, Sept. 11 in Room 200 of Hoffman Hall.

Ben-Haim will discuss “Decisions Under Severe Uncertainty,” explaining how Info-Gap Decision Theory works and how it is currently being applied in a variety of fields. Basically, this theory provides a new approach to making decisions when there are differences between what is known and what needs to be known to make a good decision. It was developed about 20 years ago for mechanical engineering, but has been expanded for application in such diverse disciplines as biological conservation, management, economics, behavioral science and health care.

Ben-Haim, who holds the Yitzhak Moda’i Chair in Technology and Economics at Technion—Israel Institute of Technology, is a member of the Abramson Center for the Future of Health, a collaborative effort by Technion, the UH College of Technology and The Methodist Hospital Research Institute.

His lecture is free and open to the public.

The lecture serves as the opening address for a five-day symposium and workshop on Info-Gap Applications in the Life Sciences being presented by the Abramson Center for the Future of Health.
