HOUSTON, Aug. 30, 2006 – Amegy Bank of Texas has pledged $15,000 toward expansion plans for the University of Houston System at Sugar Land (UHSSL).

The gift goes toward the “Building Futures Together” campaign, which supports the construction of a new academic building at the UHSSL site to be shared by the UH System and Wharton County Junior College. As part of the agreement, a faculty office in the new building will be named for the financial institution.

“Amegy Bank is pleased to be part of the campaign to help raise the funds necessary for the University of Houston and Wharton County Junior College expansion at the Sugar Land Campus,” said Lane Ward, vice chairman of Amegy Bank of Texas Rosenberg. “Just as these two fine institutions of higher learning have created a partnership to benefit the people of Fort Bend County, Amegy feels that we have a partnership with the citizens of Fort Bend County and is pleased to be able to help provide funding for higher education locally.”

“Amegy Bank has a rich history of supporting organizations in the communities in which it operates. As part of our charitable giving, Amegy Bank has consistently supported educational-based institutions, including UH, as they play a vital role in the betterment of our communities,” he said.

“We’re truly grateful for this demonstration of generosity and commitment to Fort Bend County by Amegy Bank,” said Tim Hudson, president of UH-Victoria. “We feel very fortunate to count them among valued friends of the university community and among our partners who advocate higher education.”

To date, the campaign has raised $1.2 million in private funds in addition to $4 million pledged by The George Foundation. The City of Sugar Land has also committed $3.5 million toward the project in a unique lease agreement that will support the development of entertainment and recreation facilities on the campus.
