NEW PLAYWRIGHTS SOUGHT FOR UH’S ALBEE WORKSHOP

Budding playwrights don’t have to head to the “Great White Way” to have their works groomed by a pro. One of the best in the business is preparing tomorrow’s great stage scribes at the University of Houston’s School of Theatre.

Pulitzer Prize-winning dramatist and Distinguished Lecturer Lanford Wilson is accepting submissions for the school’s prestigious Edward Albee New Playwrights Workshop, which will be conducted next spring at UH. All writing samples (poetry, scripts, short stories or plays) must be submitted by 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13. Wilson will work with students in developing original plays and guiding them through the production process.

Pulitzer Prize winner and UH Distinguished Professor of Theatre Edward Albee founded the workshop in 1989 and recruited Wilson to oversee the workshop in 2004.

“It’s very important for young artists to learn from a true master of the craft,” said Sidney Berger, director of the School of Theatre. “Having this kind of training is an invaluable experience for anyone wanting to develop as a playwright, and the School of Theatre is extremely pleased to provide this opportunity to students.”

All participants must be accepted by Wilson and must enroll at UH. Only one submission per person will be accepted. Submissions must be no longer than 40 pages and should be sent to:
