One night…one concert…one stage…more than 600 musicians. It all adds up to a unique and dynamic performance hosted by the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music (MSM). MSM will present “Collage 2006,” a season-opening concert featuring all of its ensembles and choruses at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7 in the Moores Opera House. Among the featured performers are the Spirit of Houston Marching Band, the UH Jazz Ensemble, the Edythe Bates Old Moores Opera Center and Moores Symphony Orchestra. Ensembles and soloists will perform arrangements and preview compositions to showcase upcoming highlights of the 2006-2007 concert season. “Collage” is free and open to the public. Now in its eighth year, UH’s “Collage” was conceived by Franz Krager, UH director of orchestras. The inspiration for a season opener that combines all of MSM’s talents came from observing similar-minded productions at other universities. “This is a perfect showcase for our talented students and faculty,” Krager said. “It offers audiences everything and anything MSM has to offer.” With so many musicians participating in one performance, timing is everything. Selections that will be performed are short, but still offer audiences a solid sample of MSM’s talent. “The best part of this concert is that it opens people’s
eyes and ears to what’s happening at MSM,” said Buck
Ross, director of Moores Opera Center and coordinator of “Collage.”
“Symphony enthusiasts can take a listen to the jazz ensemble,
or fans of the marching band can enjoy scenes from an opera. It
has something for everyone, but most importantly, it spotlights
the breadth of musical talent on campus.”
