EXAMINES
ENERGY PRICE REPORTING AT UH-GEMI FORUM
Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) member Sharon Brown-Hruska
will meet with energy leaders July 15, at the University of Houston
to discuss the future of energy price reporting.
The private breakfast seminar is sponsored by the UH Global Energy
Management Institute (UH-GEMI).
A media availability immediately following the seminar will be held
10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Hilton University of Houston Hotel
in the Flamingo Room 275.
The CFTC regulates U.S. commodity futures and options markets,
which includes energy trading, as well as Treasury instruments,
foreign currencies and stock market indices. These markets provide
producers and users of commodities with the ability to discover
prices and manage risks. The CFTC is responsible for preserving
the integrity of the futures and options markets and protecting
market participants from fraud, manipulation and abusive trade practices.
Prior to joining the CFTC, Brown-Hruska was an assistant professor
of finance at George Mason University. She also was a member of
the Tulane University and Virginia Tech faculties. She has taught
courses in risk management and financial innovation, international
finance, venture capital and private finance, investments and financial
markets.
CFTC members serve five-year terms, and Brown-Hruska was appointed
in 2002.
