KATY, TEXAS, July 7, 2004 – Hsin-Hui Lin, assistant professor of education at the University of Houston–Victoria, recently was honored as one of three upper division professors nominated for 2004 Teacher of Year by the Houston West Chamber of Commerce.

The annual banquet was held at the Adam’s Mark Hotel on May 13. Lin teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in child development at both the University of Houston System at Cinco Ranch and University of Houston System at Sugar Land. She is in her second year on the faculty of the University of Houston – Victoria after leaving a similar position at Tennessee State University in Nashville.

Lin has supervised eight students teachers this past semester, all of whom have job offers – three have been hired by Katy I.S.D. Kurt Czupryn, director of UH System at Cinco Ranch, was understandably proud of Lin. “We have enjoyed having Hsin-Hui here at Cinco Ranch. Her enthusiasm for education has had a positive effect on us all. She comes to work every day with a big smile and kind word for everyone.”

Lin earned her Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

“When I came to America,” says Lin, “people in Taiwan thought I was crazy to spend $8000 a semester to attend an American university for a teaching degree, but I told them it wasn’t about money. It is so satisfying to work with student teachers and see how they are transformed. Many are starting a second career.”
