THIS SUMMER’S CHILDREN’S THEATRE FESTIVAL AT UH
PREMIERES WITH PINK GOATS AND A PRINCE-LY WOLF

One of Houston’s most popular cultural traditions is back as the University of Houston’s Children’s Theatre Festival gets under way Friday, May 28, with a production of “The Wolf and the Foolish Kids.”

This will be the 26th season for the UH School of Theatre’s slate of shows specifically designed to appeal to younger audiences. But that’s never been an excuse for shoddy or simple-minded productions.

“These are high quality plays,” said Carolyn Boone, an associate professor of theater at UH who’s directing this opening show. “Every production is treated as if Arthur Miller wrote it. For the community, the festival has become dependable. People know that there will be fun material that inspires creativity within their children.”

In “The Wolf and the Foolish Kids,” a ravenous wolf with a striking resemblance to pop star Prince has hopes of making a meal from a family of goats.

“Expect to see goats rapping and singing country-western tunes,” Boone advised.

And did we mention the goats are pink?

Also scheduled for this summer’s festival: “Aesop’s Fables” June 18-July 2 and “The New Adventures of Pinocchio” July 16-August 1.
