‘BRIDGING THE GAAP’ EXAMINES FUTURE OF ACCOUNTING

“Bridging the GAAP,” a one-day conference in which financial experts will debate the relevance of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), will be held at the University of Houston’s Bauer College of Business April 30.

The morning session will consider GAAP’s application. Financial Accounting Standards Board ( FASB) member Katherine Schipper will talk about the current practice, and academicians will present low-cost proposals to improve GAAP for financial reporting. Industry specialists will then comment on the practicality of the proposals. This session is geared toward chief financial officers, certified public accountants, bankers, investors and lenders.

During the luncheon keynote address, Financial Executives International Chairman H. Stephen Grace Jr. will speak about the need for ethics, transparency and checks and balances in the governance process.

The afternoon panel, “Enhancing Accounting Relevance through GAAP on Financial Reporting,” will examine theories and empirical evidence.

Four hours of continuing professional education (CPE) credit is available for the morning session, while two hours of CPE credit is available for the afternoon session.

“Bridging the GAAP” is part of Bauer College’s Stanford Group Company Speaker Series, which brings together the diverse sides of the accounting field to address key contemporary issues.
