SINGER, DANCER AUDITIONS SET FOR UH
MUSICAL THEATRE LAB
Broadway Producer Stuart Ostrow Looking for Hopefuls for Annual
Production
HOUSTON, March 24, 2004 – Gotta sing? Gotta
dance? If so, the University of Houston’s Musical Theatre
Lab Class may be the perfect place for you to strut your stuff
this fall.
Auditions have been announced for singers and dancers interested
in participating in the class taught by Tony Award-winning producer
Stuart Ostrow, Distinguished University Professor of Musical Theatre
at UH. General auditions will be held from 2:30-5:30 p.m. April
13. Callbacks, if needed, will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. April
14.
These performers will work in conjunction with the Musical Collaboration
Class to help stage Ostrow’s annual production of excerpts
from three newly created musicals. Last year’s production
was presented at the Hobby Center.
Singers should prepare two vocal selections – one up-tempo,
one ballad – and provide sheet music in the correct key. An
accompanist will be provided. No tapes please. Singers may be asked
to perform a monologue of their choice, to cold-read a new scene,
and learn additional music or a movement combination.
Dancers should wear (or bring) appropriate dance attire and shoes
and provide a cassette/CD player, if needed. A dance combination
will be taught.
Both singers and dancers should bring a photo and resume.
Ostrow is also conducting interviews for participants in the Musical
Collaboration Class for the fall. Specifically, he is looking for
composers, lyricists/librettists, book writers, directors, choreographers,
designers, producers and stage managers. For more details or to
schedule an appointment, call Sandy Judice at 713-743-3003.
To be eligible for either of these classes, an individual will
have to be registered at the University of Houston during the Fall
2004 semester as either a part- or full-time student. For more information
