BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING RESEARCH TOPICS
TO BE PRESENTED DURING CONFERENCE AT HILTON UH HOTEL

The 21st annual Houston Conference on Biomedical Engineering Research will be held Thursday and Friday at the Hilton University of Houston Hotel and Conference Center.

Nearly 200 papers from area scientists, engineers and researchers will be presented on topics ranging from robotics, bioinformatics, aerospace engineering and medical physics to neuroengineering, computational biology, medical image processing and biotechnology. The Houston Society for Engineering in Medicine and Biology hosts the annual event.

Featured presenters include Dr. Ferid Murad, who is director of the Institute for Molecular Medicine, UT-Houston Medical School, and winner of the 1998 Nobel in Physiology/Medicine and Paolo Bonato, director, Motion Analysis Laboratory, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital at the Harvard Medical School. Murad will be discussing “The Discovery of Nitric Oxide and Its Application for Drug Development.” Bonato’s presentation will focus on “Reshaping Health Care Using Wearable Technology.”

Local and regional institutions represented at the conference include UH, Rice, UTMB, UT Health Science Center/Houston, Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Heart Institute, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Methodist Hospital, St. Luke’s, JSC-NASA, UT, Texas A&M, Baylor, UT Health Science Center/San Antonio and Louisiana Tech.

The conference is open to the public. A registration fee is required and may be paid at the event.
