PERRY NAMES TWO NEW UH SYSTEM BOARD OF REGENTS MEMBERS
University of Houston Alums Golden, Rose Appointed to Six-Year Terms

HOUSTON, Jan. 7, 2004 – Texas Gov. Rick Perry appointed two new members to the University of Houston System Board of Regents: Dennis D. Golden of Carthage, Texas and Lynden B. Rose of Houston. They will serve six-year terms.

Golden and Rose are UH alums. Golden, an optometrist, is a cum laude graduate of the University of Houston where he received his bachelors of science and optometry degrees. Rose, an attorney, earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the university where he was also co-captain of the Cougar basketball team that reached the NCAA Final Four in 1982.

Golden replaces former UH System Regent Suzette Caldwell whose term expired last year. Rose replaces Gene McDavid, the former Board of Regents chair whose term also expired last year. A complete list of UH System Board members is available at http://www.uhsa.uh.edu/regents/board_members/.

“Governor Perry has provided our university system with two highly qualified individuals whose familiarity with our campus will allow them to contribute immediately to our efforts to build the University of Houston into a national and international institution of academic and research excellence,” said Bo Smith, chair of the UH System Board of Regents. “We welcome Dennis and Lynden into our family and look forward to having them help us work through the challenges that face us in reaching our goals in the coming years.”

Golden is a doctor of optometry and owner of Golden Eye Associates in Carthage, Texas. He is a member of the Texas Optometric Association (TOA) and the American Optometric Association. He is past president of TOA, which named him optometrist of the year in 2003. He is also the past chairman of the Board of Trustees of Panola College where he served three terms.

Rose is an attorney in private practice in Houston. He is president of L. M. Rose Consulting and former president of Rose Sports Management Inc. Rose currently serves on the Governor’s Advisory Council on Physical Fitness and the Harris County Sheriff’s Department Civil Service Commission.

The centers are the UH System at Sugar Land and the UH System at Cinco Ranch. In addition, the UH System includes KUHF-FM, Houston’s National Public Radio and classical radio station, and KUHT-TV, the nation’s first educational television station.
