              PERRY NAMES TWO NEW UH SYSTEM BOARD 
                OF REGENTS MEMBERS 
                University of Houston Alums Golden, Rose Appointed 
                to Six-Year Terms  
            
              
              HOUSTON, Jan. 7, 2004 – Texas Gov. Rick Perry appointed two 
              new members to the University of Houston System Board of Regents: 
              Dennis D. Golden of Carthage, Texas and Lynden B. Rose of Houston. 
              They will serve six-year terms. 
               
              Golden and Rose are UH alums. Golden, an optometrist, is a cum laude 
              graduate of the University of Houston where he received his bachelors 
              of science and optometry degrees. Rose, an attorney, earned his 
              undergraduate and law degrees from the university where he was also 
              co-captain of the Cougar basketball team that reached the NCAA Final 
              Four in 1982. 
               
              Golden replaces former UH System Regent Suzette Caldwell whose term 
              expired last year. Rose replaces Gene McDavid, the former Board 
              of Regents chair whose term also expired last year. A complete list

            “Governor Perry has provided our university system with two 
              highly qualified individuals whose familiarity with our campus will 
              allow them to contribute immediately to our efforts to build the 
              University of Houston into a national and international institution 
              of academic and research excellence,” said Bo Smith, chair 
              of the UH System Board of Regents. “We welcome Dennis and 
              Lynden into our family and look forward to having them help us work 
              through the challenges that face us in reaching our goals in the 
              coming years.” 
               
              Golden is a doctor of optometry and owner of Golden Eye Associates 
              in Carthage, Texas. He is a member of the Texas Optometric Association 
              (TOA) and the American Optometric Association. He is past president 
              of TOA, which named him optometrist of the year in 2003. He is also 
              the past chairman of the Board of Trustees of Panola College where 
              he served three terms. 
               
              Rose is an attorney in private practice in Houston. He is president 
              of L. M. Rose Consulting and former president of Rose Sports Management 
              Inc. Rose currently serves on the Governor’s Advisory Council 
              on Physical Fitness and the Harris County Sheriff’s Department 
              Civil Service Commission.
