Kinesiology Major

Degree Plan

Kinesiology is also known as human kinetics, which is the science of human movement. It is a discipline that focuses on Physical Activity. Kinesiology applies scientific based medical principles towards the analysis, preservation and enhancement of human movement in all settings and populations. The University of Houston offers three tracks within the Kinesiology Department. These three track are Exercise Science, Sports Administration, and Fitness and Sports.


Freshman Admissions

Freshman applicants are required to meet general university freshman admission requirements.

Transfer Admissions

First, applicants are required to meet general university transfer admissions requirements .  In addition, applicants who have completed 15-29 hours of coursework need a 2.50 GPA. Applicants who have completed 30 semester hours or more must have a 2.30 GPA or higher.


A wide variety of career opportunities are available for Kinesiology majors depending on the track they choose to follow:

A focus on Exercise Science prepares students for careers in personal training, fitness training, wellness, adult fitness/cardiac rehabilitation, strength and conditioning of athletes, clinical exercise physiology, and scientific research.

A focus on Sports Administration prepares students for careers in management, marketing, advertising, PR, becoming a sports agent, and other sports and business career avenues.

A focus on Fitness and Sports prepares students for careers in personal training, fitness training, wellness, managing programs in corporate, community, and healthcare settings that encourage and support healthy lifestyles.
