The Health Promotion Emphasis degree is designed for students who wish to prepare for careers as health educators in health departments, community organizations, corporations, worksites, volunteer organizations, schools, colleges, and governmental organizations.
Health Educators are an integral part of community health education programs. They may specialize in various areas that include clinical health, public health, community health, industrial health, and school health. They main objective for a health educator is to prevent disease and promote healthy lifestyles through knowledge and behavior change.
Freshman applicants are required to meet general university freshman admission requirements.
First, applicants are required to meet general university transfer admissions requirements . In addition, applicants who have completed 15-29 hours of coursework need a 2.50 GPA. Applicants who have completed 30 semester hours or more must have a 2.30 GPA or higher.
UH Alumni with a Health Promotion Emphasis degree can obtain careers in schools and colleges, local, state, and federal government organizations, hospitals, health departments, parks and recreation offices, community organizations such as YMCA, fitness clubs, and other companies with Health and Wellness programs.
