BEIJING CAPITAL INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
TRAINING CONTRACT
The University of Houston, in cooperation with Houston
Airport System, and Texas Southern University developed a first time aviation-training
program. This Aviation Training Program was designed in order to provide
aviation training for a period of six months to executives from different
departments of the Beijing Airport System.
The coordination of the program between Houston Airport
System (HAS), University of Houston (UH), and Texas Southern University
(TSU) was provided by the University of Houston, Office of International
Studies and Programs Department, and the coordinator of the program was
Ms. Maria Saldaña. The program’s delivery occurred during
the months of July to December of 2002.
The instruction of this training program was designed
in three different sections for a period of six months. This training
program started on July 1, 2002 and ended on December 9, 2002. The classes
were held on room 101 in the Continuing Education West Wing of the University
of Houston Hilton. The first part of the training was Aviation Technical
Training provided by TSU for a total of 35 training days, beginning on
July 3, 2002 and ending on August 21, 2002. The second part was Airport
Business Management Training provided by the University of Houston for
a total of 35 training days, starting on August 22, 2002 and ending on
October 10, 2002. Finally, the third session of the training was Airport
Operations Management Training provided by HAS for a total of 35 training
days, beginning on October 11, 2002 and finalizing on December 3, 2002.
After the training tours were provided for the trainees from December
4 to December 9, 2002.
The trainees were an elite group of executives from the Beijing Capital
International Airport Group. Coming to the United States was not an easy
task for the trainees. They had to take a series of examinations in order
to qualify for the training program. A total of 15 participants had the
opportunity to obtain this aviation certification and experience the Western
culture. English proficiency was an essential requirement for the trainees
in order to achieve a maximum benefit of the program.
