International Education Fee Scholarship (IEFS):

• All UH Students who have completed 12 Hours of course work for undergraduates with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and 9 Hours of course work for graduates with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Houston Junior Chamber of Commerce Scholarship(HJCC):

Asian studies Scholorship

• The Asian Studies Scholarship is available to students from public institutions interested in studying abroad with SIT in China,Mongolia or Vietnam during the spring semester. Scholarships will be awarded on a competative basis to six students who demonstrate a compelling interest in studying Asia and financial need.

Australia Fellowship Program

• The American Australian Association is currently accepting applications for its US to Australia Fellowship Program. The program offers fellowships of up to AU$30,000 to American researchers or students wishing to undertake advanced research or study in Australia. Through these Educational Fellowships, the Association encourages intellectual collaboration and innovation, building on the strong social and economic partnerships between Australia and the United States.

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX)

• The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX) is a fellowship for college-age students and recent graduates throughout the US who want to live, study, and intern in Germany for one year. CBYX is funded by the US and German governments for students in all career fields. Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship Program:

David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarships (NSEP)

• Available to
• A U.S. citizen at the time of application.
• A high school graduate, or have earned a GED, and are matriculated as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior in a U.S. post-secondary institution, including universities, colleges, and community colleges accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
• Applying to engage in a study abroad experience that meets home institution standards.
• Planning to use the scholarship for study abroad and the study abroad program ends before you graduate. NSEP undergraduate scholarships are not for study in the United States.

• Amount:  The amount of an NSEP scholarship award is based on financial need, as certified by the institution's financial aid office.  The amount will vary from the cost of participation in a proposed study abroad program, to partial support. The maximum scholarship award for any one academic term in a study abroad program is about $12,000. For students participating in individually arranged programs, the amount of the award will be based on host country cost of living, tuition (if any), travel, books, settling-in, and appropriate insurance. These costs will be determined by IIE/NSEP.

Fulbright Student Program 

• Graduating seniors, current graduate students, and alumni are encouraged to apply for the Fulbright Student Program.  The program is available to U.S. citizen, who will have a bachelor’s degree by the beginning date of the grant but will not have a doctorate degree as of October 2012, and who is thinking of studying, assistant-teaching English, or conducting research abroad.

• The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) in cooperation with Diversity Abroad will be awarding yearly grants for undergraduate and graduate students who have been accepted to a study abroad program in Turkey or Northern Cyprus for semester,summer and short tem respectively.

The Houston International Scholarship -  SIT Study Abroad (School for International Training)

• Available to any University of Houston student who is accepted to an SIT Study Abroad program. Awards are based upon need and merit.
• Deadline: Applicants for Summer programs must apply by March 15, Fall semester by May 15 and Spring semester by November 15

• Amount: Awards for summer and semester programs range from $1200 - $12,000.
• More information: This fund is part of a permanent endowment and provides international/intercultural learning opportunities for Houston-area undergraduate students. Partial to full scholarships are available to Houston-area students in any field or major who are accepted to an SIT Study Abroad program. Minority students are strongly encouraged to apply.

CEA Affiliate Scholarship

• Open to students whose home institution is a member of CEA's Affiliate Program. Recipients are selected based on merit and essay quality. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required.
• Deadline:  Fall/Academic Year students: April 15th ;  Spring students: October 1st; Summer Students: March 15th

• Amount: A maximum of ten (12) scholarships are awarded annually in the amount of $1,000 each
• Additional Information: In addition to completing all CEA program application materials,scholarship applicants must: 1) Submit a completed scholarship application for each scholarship to which they are applying. Students can apply for more than one scholarship, however each student is eligible to win only one award. 2) Write and send a 500-1,000 word essay suited to each scholarship for which they are applying. 3) Send official transcript from their university.

American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS):

• All Students who have completed 12 Hours of course work and with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA who also satisfy the program requirements of the course for which they are applying. Student applying through AIFS for study abroad are eligible
• Deadline: Applicants for summer programs must apply by March 15, fall semester by April 15 and spring semester by October 1st .

• Amount: 150 semester scholarships of $1,000 each annually as well as up to 50 summer scholarships of $750 each for use on the AIFS programs
• Additional Information:  AIFS annually awards more than $250,000 in scholarships to students who demonstrate high academic achievement and write an essay as detailed on the application. The AIFS International Scholarships promote international understanding through study abroad. The awards celebrate the founding more than 38 years of the AIFS. ABB-Global E3 Scholarship for  Women Engineering Students to Study Abroad

• A scholarship is now available to U.S. women engineering students studying abroad through the Global E3 program.

• Additional Information: The ABB scholarship is available to U.S. women engineering students studying abroad through the Global E3 program. The scholarship has been instituted to encourage the participation of talented women students in the engineering field and to help provide these students with valuable international experience.

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship And Excellence In Education Foundation

• Undergraduate sophomore and junior level students at two and four year colleges and universities who are properly nominated by accredited institutions, recognized by the Department of Education may apply.

• Additional Information: The Goldwater Foundation is a federally endowed agency established in 1986. The program honoring former Sen. Barry M. The Goldwater Scholarship is the premier undergraduate award of its type in these fields.

Scholarships for Under-Represented Minority Students to Study Abroad Through Global E3

• To qualify students must be U.S. citizens planning to study abroad at a Global E3 member institution for a minimum of one academic semester. Students must complete and submit a survey on their study abroad experience at the conclusion of the study abroad period.
• Deadline:  March 12 for students planning to study abroad in the Fall;  October 12 for students planning to study abroad in the Spring

Summer German Language and Culture Program for Engineering Students at the Technical University Munich (TU München)

• The Program is open to second-, third-, and fourth-year undergraduate students enrolled full time in an engineering or natural sciences degree program at an accredited university or college in the US or Canada. Applicants must be Canadian or US citizens, or hold permanent resident status in one of these countries

Bowman Travel Grant (CIEE)

• The applicant (US citizens and permanent residents only) must participate in a CIEE study or volunteer abroad program. Student traveling to "third world" destinations should apply. Covers airfare only for any student traveling to a "third world" country. The applicant must attend a CIEE Member or CIEE Academic Consortium member institution.

British Council Scholarships

Brutex North American Scholarships

• Eight $1,000 Scholarships are awarded each year to currently registered students at U.S.Universities who will study abroad at a BUTEX member institution in the United Kingdom

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants

• Fifty $1,000 grants are awarded each year to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad.

Limpse Correspondents Program Grants

• The Glimpse Foundation and the National Geographic Society are seeking talented writers,photographers and filmmakers.Each selected participant will recive a $600 grant and will see their work published in Glimpse and National Geographic media

London Metropolitan University Scholarship

• London Metropolitan University offers partial tuition waiver scholarships for Fall and Spring semester only, for those students who would otherwise find it difficult to afford a study abroad experiences in London. These are four scholarships available and these are awarded to students with a GPA of 2.5 and over. Consideration will be based on financial need as well as academic merit.

Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) Scholarships

DIS--Scholarships (Program Specific Scholarship)

• Consists of grants in the range of $ 500-1,000 per semester. In addition, a small number of $ 2,000 scholarships are allocated per semester. For summer programs the limit is normally $ 500.
• Deadline:  Scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis; we advise you to submit the DIS Scholarship Application Form as early as possible, as DIS will be able to conditionally award a scholarship, pending your acceptance into the program.

ASSOCIATION OF INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION, JAPAN (AIEJ) SCHOLARSHIPS

• Students applying for an academic year program in Japan will be eligible for an AIEJ scholarship. The scholarship provides for one round-trip airfare, a one-time settling-in allowance of approximately $250, and a cash stipend ranging from $6,600-$8,200 per academic year. There is no AIEJ Scholarship application form. The host university nominates the student to Japan's Ministry of Education's AIEJ scholarship committee.

Japanese Government Monbunsho Scholarship

The Japanese Government Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture (Monbusho) is offering the Monbusho Scholarship Competition for students planning to study abroad in Japan. The Monbusho Scholarship enables foreign students from 112 different countries to study for 1 - 2 years in Japan. The Monbusho works in cooperation with local, national, and private universities to promote these scholarships. There are three scholarship categories open to U.S. citizens funded by the Monbusho. Japanese Studies Scholarship for undergraduates to study Japanese language and culture, the In-Service Training for Teachers Scholarship for pre-collegiate Japanese instructors to train in methods of teaching Japanese as a foreign language, and the Research Fellowship for post graduates to research a broad range of topics in Japanese universities and educational institutions.

Application: All 16 Japanese consulates in the U.S. are currently accepting applications and will administer interviews and a Japanese language exam to screen qualified individuals for recommendation to the Monbusho. For information and application materials call the nearest consulate-general of Japan or the Embassy of Japan in Washington.

Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Scholarship offers scholarships and loans to international students interested in studying abroad in Japan for short and long term durations. Visit the JASSO website for details or contact the Office of Undergraduate Research.

George J. Mitchell Scholarship

The George J. Mitchell scholarship is for students interested in pursuing a one-year graduate program at an institution in Ireland. The Mitchell Scholarship provides tuition, housing, a $12,000 living expenses stipend, and an international travel allowance to recipients. 12 scholarships are awarded each year.

Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 30, and must exhibit superior academic achievement, leadership abilities and a commitment to public service.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship Program

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is a private, independent foundation, established by Jack Kent Cooke to help young people of exceptional promise reach their full potential through education. To fulfill its mission, the Foundation identifies and supports young people of special intelligence, application, deportment, and character who have financial need and demonstrated excellence in academic endeavors and extracurricular activities.  The Foundation's scholarships are the largest and among the most competitive in the country.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship Program has two separate competitions-one for continuing four-year college students, the other for graduate student. The award will provide funding for tuition, room and board, required fees, and books for the remainder of the Jack Kent Cooke Scholar's degree. Award amounts will vary for each recipient based on the institution he or she attends. Awards cannot exceed $30,000 annually. Students interested in this scholarship must be nominated by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Faculty Representative at his/her institution. Direct applications from students will not be accepted.

The Foundation is now accepting applications for these scholarship programs:

White House Fellows Program

The White House Fellows Program currently is reviewing applications for the 2011-2012. The program will begin accepting applications for the 2011-2012 class from September 1, 2012 through February 1, 2011.Founded in 1964, the White House Fellows program is America's most prestigious program for leadership and public service. White House Fellowships offer exceptional young men and women first-hand experience working at the highest levels of the federal government.

White House Fellows typically spend a year working as full-time, paid special assistants to senior White House Staff, the Vice President, Cabinet Secretaries and other top-ranking government officials. Fellows also participate in an education program consisting of roundtable discussions with renowned leaders from the private and public sectors, and trips to study U.S. policy in action both domestically and internationally.

Selection as a White House Fellow is based on a combination of the following criteria:

• A record of remarkable professional achievement early in one's career.
• Evidence of leadership skills and the potential for further growth.
• A demonstrated commitment to public service.
• The knowledge and skills necessary to contribute successfully at the highest levels of the federal government.

Prerequisites

• Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
• Applicants should be finished with their undergraduate education and working in their chosen professions.
• There are no formal age restrictions. However, the fellowship program was created to give selected Americans the experience of government service early in their careers.

Marshall Scholarship (Only for UK institution)

Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. At least forty Scholars are selected each year to study either at graduate or occasionally undergraduate level at an UK institution in any field of study. Each scholarship is held for two years.

As future leaders, with a lasting understanding of British society, Marshall Scholars strengthen the enduring relationship between the British and American peoples, their governments and their institutions. The Fulbright Program

The Fulbright Program awards grants and teaching assistantships to students in over 140 countries for one year of study. Students may propose to apply directly to an institution, conduct an independent research project, engage in an intensive language study, or apply for a teaching assistantship. The Fulbright Program funds travel expenses, housing, insurance, and other expenses for the time spent abroad.

Candidates must be US citizens and have a bachelor's degree by the time they begin their project overseas. Applicants should also have sufficient proficiency in the written and spoken language of the host country in order to carry out the proposed study.

The national deadline is usually October 21 st each year, but there may be a campus deadline in the beginning of October for UH candidates. Students may not apply to this scholarship directly. Institutional endorsement is required. Each candidate must be evaluated by a campus committee. Gates-Cambridge

The Gates-Cambridge funds expenses for studying at Cambridge for 1-4 years. Applicants are usually under 30 years of age, must be admitted to Cambridge , and should have attained their bachelor's degree before the beginning of their graduate program. There is no citizenship requirement for this award.

German Chancellor Scholarship Program - Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

The Humboldt Foundation offers a variety of research, academic and summer programs for American undergraduate and graduate students to study abroad in Germany. Before submitting an application, applicants are expected to have established contact with a mentor in Germany who agrees to provide professional and scholarly assistance throughout the program.

Applicants must be under 35 and U.S. citizens in the academic, economic, political and social fields who will have completed a bachelor's degree prior to the start of the scholarship program.  For more information on the programs offered and to complete the online applications, visit the Humboldt Foundation website at http://www.humboldt-foundation.de/en/programme/index.htm. 

Japan Monbukagakusho Scholarship

The Japan Monbukagakusho Scholarship Offers a variety of scholarships for students generally studying abroad in Japan; studying Japanese studies and languages in Japan; planning to teach in Japan; conducting research in Japan; and undertaking vocational training in Japan. Eligibility requirements and deadlines vary depending on the particular program. Please be aware that because applicants must apply through a Japanese Embassy or Consulate in the country where they hold citizenship, the Consulate in Houston only has scholarship information applicable to U.S. citizens. Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Thirty-eight $1,000 grants are awarded each year. The scholarship is for a summer study abroad program, and the study abroad plan should relate directly to applicant's academic preparation, potential career choice, and commitment to the welfare of others. Candidates must attend an institution with a Phi Kappa Phi chapter, and have at least a 3.5 GPA. Applicants must also have a minimum of 30 credit hours, but no more than 90 credit hours by the deadline. Rhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes awards 32 scholarships each year to American students for study at Oxford for 2-3 years. The Rhodes covers tuition and all other educational costs for the scholars' tenure at Oxford . Applicants must be full-time graduating seniors that have at least a 3.7 GPA, demonstrate leadership abilities, possess a strong sense of social purpose, and are committed to athletics (or at least energetic). Candidates should be unmarried, under the age of 24, and have attained a bachelor's degree before beginning their first term at Oxford . The Rhodes is one of the most prestigious scholarships, and therefore one of the most competitive awards available.

Adell & Hancock Scholarship

Open to international students currently studying at a U.S. uiversity or U.S. students engaging in a study abroad program during the next academic year.

Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) Scholarship

The Turkish Coalition of America awards up to 120 scholarships per year for African American, Hispanic American, Native American students. These scholarships are awarded to eligible undergraduate and graduate students who have been accepted to a university in Turkey or in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Categories

Scholarships range from $500 to $2,000 per student:

• $2,000 for a semester or year at a Turkish/TRNC university
• $1,000 for Turkish language studies at a Turkish/TRNC university
• $1,000 for summer programs lasting for more than 4 weeks at a Turkish/TNRC university
• $ 500 for summer programs lasting up to 4 weeks sponsored by US educational institutions or Turkish/TRNC universities

Eligibility:

Undergraduate or graduate students who fulfill the following criteria may apply:

• U.S. citizens of African-American, Hispanic/Latino or Native American ethnic origin
• Enrolled full-time, in good standing at an accredited U.S. college or university
• Must be accepted to a Study Abroad program, language program at a university in Turkey or the TRNC or to a university sponsored study to Turkey or the TRNC,
• Willing to share experiences in Turkey or the TRNC with the TCA community and Diversity Abroad

4. OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT Must be original. Transcripts may NOT be sent separately.

Ping Doctoral Research Fellowships ( CIEE )

Ping Doctoral Research Fellowships provide support for doctoral research focused on U.S. undergraduate study abroad. CIEE will award up to two Doctoral Research Fellowships for the Fall-Spring academic year, each worth $20,000.

Eligibility

By the opening date of the fall academic term:

• The candidate must be writing, or about to begin writing, a dissertation focused on some aspect of U.S. undergraduate study abroad.
• The candidate must have successfully completed all doctoral coursework, and his or her qualifying examination.
• The candidate must be enrolled full-time as a graduate student at the university where he or she completed the doctoral coursework and qualifying examination.
• The candidate must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) for all previous graduate work.
• The candidate must provide a summary of the prospectus (a maximum of five double-spaced pages) describing the dissertation research project that his or her doctoral committee has approved.
• The candidate’s record should provide evidence of outstanding academic and scholarly achievement.
• The candidate must be devoted full-time to his or her dissertation research.
