Honors Curriculum

The Human Situation

Course Credit

Like all Honors College core courses, The Human Situation offers an alternative way for students to fulfill certain universitywide core requirements.

Antiquity

  • The fall semester is six (6) credit hours.
  • Team-taught lecture portion of the course is divided into two faculty teams. Both teams meet for the lecture portion of the course from 12-1 p.m. MWF.
  • To receive credit for the lecture portion, students enroll in either ENGL 1370H or ENGL 2360H. Those who have no college English credit or who have credit for one semester of college English enroll in ENGL 1370H; those with credit for two semesters of college freshman English should enroll in ENGL 2360H.
  • The discussion portion of the course divides the class into small sections led by individual faculty leaders for a total of three hours per week.
  • To receive credit for the discussion portion, students enroll in HON 2301H. A variety of discussion times are available. Students may choose their discussion time; however, all requests will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis by the coordinator of academic services.

    Requirements fulfilled: Three (3) hours of the communication component and three (3) hours of the humanities component in the Core Curriculum.

Modernity

Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in the ENGL portion of The Human Situation: Antiquity or approval of an Honors College advisor.

  • The spring semester is four (4) credit hours.
  • Team-taught lecture portion of the course, ENGL 2361H, is divided into two faculty teams. Both teams meet for the lecture section from 12-1 p.m. MW.
  • The discussion portion of the course, HON 2101H, divides the class into small discussion sections with individual instructors for a total of two (2) hours per week. A variety of discussion times are available. Students may choose their discussion time; however, all requests will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis by the coordinator of academic services.

Requirements fulfilled: Three (3) hours of the communication component in the Core Curriculum; one hour of elective credit.
