HLT 2310: Emergency Care and First Aid
Cr. 3. (3-0). Emergency care program of the school; Red Cross certification.

HLT 2320: Foundations of Health
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: BIOL 1310 and BIOL 1320 or consent of instructor and HLT 1353. Introduction to concepts of health and health education; overview of critical issues in the field of health promotion; contributions of health care professionals in a variety of settings.

HLT 3301: Individual Behavior With Health Consequences
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: PSYC 1300 and HLT 2320, or consent of instructor. Health consequences of personal behavior. Emphasizes factors in changing behavior and the role of the health care delivery system in affecting individual behavior.

HLT 3303: Health of the Elementary Child
[TCCN—TECA 1318]
Cr. 3. (3-9). Field-based course that focuses on health status, needs, and interests of elementary age children with implications for health education.

HLT 3304: Adolescent Health Issues
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: HLT 2320. Health status, needs, and risks associated with adolescence with implications for health education.

HLT 3306: Environmental Health
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: HLT 1353. Community health problems; investigation of mobilization of the public and official voluntary health agencies to minimize such problems.

HLT 3381: Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: six semester hours of biology or consent of instructor. An overview of theories and strategies in health education for prevention and control of common diseases and promoting health.

HLT 4198:4398: Special Problems
Cr. 1 or 3 per semester. Prerequisite: approval of department chair.

HLT 4302: Health Aspects of Human Sexuality
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: HLT 1353, PSYC 1300, PSYC 3360 or PSYC 3361 or consent of instructor. Physical, mental and social health issues associated with sexual practices. Examination of school, family, and community roles in addressing these issues.

HLT 4306: Women's Health Issues
Cr. 3. (3-0). Examination of factors influencing women's health. Emphasis is on the biological, sociocultural and behavioral factors prompting need for special attention to the health of women.

HLT 4307: Measurement Techniques in Health
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: junior standing and six semester hours of health education. Quantitative methods in the construction and utilization of instruments used by health educators.

HLT 4308: Understanding Cancer
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: eight semester hours of natural science or consent of instructor. Exploration of the disease cancer and its impact on individuals and the community.

HLT 4309: Health Disparities
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: senior standing and completion of twelve hours of health core or advanced health elective courses. Social and societal factors fundamental in creating disparities in health. Formulation of public policy objectives to reduce and ultimately eliminate Heath disparities.

HLT 4310: Program Planning for the Health Professions
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: HLT 2310 or consent of instructor. Development, implementation, and evaluation of health programs.

HLT 4392:4393: Field Work in Community Health
Cr. 3 per course. (1-6). Prerequisite: senior standing or consent of instructor. Observation and supervised field work in official and/or voluntary health agencies.

HLT 4397: Selected Topics in Health
Cr. 1-3 per semester. (3-0). Prerequisite: approval of department chair. May be repeated for credit when topics vary.
