Cr. 1. (1-0). Methods of teaching science and mathematics in schools. Requires students to observe and teach science and math activities in middle school classrooms.

CUIN 3111;3112; 3113: Information Technology for Young Children
Cr. 1. (1-9). Prerequisites: junior standing, 2.50 GPA in English, 2.50 GPA overall. Field-based course on information technologies appropriate for young children.

CUIN 3201: Teaching Young Children
Cr. 2. (2-0). Introduction to the teaching profession. Theories and principles of learning in young children with an emphasis on the importance of family.

CUIN 3202: Content-Focused Teaching
Cr. 2. (2-0). Prerequisite: admission to the teacher education program. Principles of teaching and learning with an emphasis on content-integrated curriculum and school-based learning.

CUIN 3203: Performance-Focused Teaching
Cr. 2. (2-0). Prerequisite: admission to student teaching. Principles of teaching and learning with an emphasis on instructional implementation, assessment, and community learning.

CUIN 3300: Introduction to Teaching Grades 4-8
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: admission to teacher certification program and credit for or concurrent enrollment in CUIN 3111. Instructional strategies and tools used for grades 4-8 instruction.

CUIN 3302: Community-Based Education
Cr. 3. (3-9). Prerequisite: admission to Teacher Education. Field-based course. Introduces curricula and instructional methods of utilizing cultural and scientific community resources.

CUIN 3310: Foundations of Bilingual Education
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: six semester hours of advanced Spanish or equivalent. Rationale and history of bilingual programs for limited or non-English speaking students. Taught in Spanish.

CUIN 3311: Methods and Techniques in Bilingual Education
Cr. 3. (3-9). Prerequisite: CUIN 3310. Field-based course that focuses on methods in teaching content areas in Spanish. Taught in Spanish.

CUIN 3313: Information Technology for Adolescents
Cr. 3. (3-9). Prerequisites: junior standing, 2.50 GPA in English, 2.50 GPA overall. Field-based course on information technologies appropriate for adolescents.

CUIN 3315: Introduction to Early Childhood Education
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: sophomore standing. Introduction, overview, and analysis of basic principles and theories of learning by young children in group settings.

CUIN 3316: Prekindergarten Curriculum

CUIN 3333: Differentiating Instruction for Diverse Learners
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: admission to Teacher Certification Program. Curricular, instructional, and managerial techniques for use with diverse learners.

CUIN 3346: Teaching the Writing Process
Cr. 3. (3-3). Prerequisite: Methods and techniques for teaching the writing process in grades K-12.

CUIN 3347: Reading in the Content Area
Cr. 3. (3-9). Prerequisite: junior standing. Methods and materials for teaching developmental reading in specific content areas. Includes assessment and treatment of reading difficulties, including dyslexia and other literacy disorders, in grades 7-12.

CUIN 4346: Teaching Secondary Mathematics with Technology

CUIN 4347: Teaching Mathematics in Grades 7-12

CUIN 4349: Teaching Geometric Concepts for Grades 6-12
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: admission to teacher certification program. Design of appropriate instructional methods, materials and assessment techniques for teaching geometry concepts in grades 6-12.

CUIN 4375: Classroom Management
Cr. 3. (3-0). Introduction to effective classroom management with emphasis on behavior modification, socioemotional climate, and group process strategies.

CUIN 4397: Selected Topics in Curriculum and Instruction
Cr. 3 per semester. (3-0). Prerequisite: approval of department chair. May be repeated for credit when topics vary.
