The university is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as a Level VI, General postsecondary institution. In addition, the university is a member of the Association of Texas Colleges and Universities, the American Council on Education,

The Biomedical Engineering and Computer Engineering degree programs have been approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board but have not been reviewed for Engineering Accreditation by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
