ENGI 1100: Introduction to Engineering
Cr. 1. (0-2). Prerequisite: credit for or enrollment in MATH 1431.
Restricted to honors and academic scholarship recipient students in the
first semester in which the prerequisite is satisfied. Overview of
engineering, information about various engineering disciplines, simple
examples of problem solving, and engineering ethics.

ENGI 1297: Selected Topics

ENGI 1331: Computers and Problem Solving
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: MATH
1431, ENGI 1100, and membership in Engineering Honors Program. Introduction to the computing environment; networks and the internet; spreadsheets; computer-based tools for engineering problem-solving; and programming constructs, algorithms, and applications engineering ethics.
ENGI 2304: Technical Communications
Cr. 3. (2-3). Prerequisites: ENGL 1304, an engineering major, and completion of one of the following courses: CHEE 1331, CIVE 1331, ECE 1331, INDE 1331 or MECE 1331. Engineering communication skills: written proposals, specifications, progress reports, and technical reports; individual and group oral presentations; essays on engineering ethics, contemporary engineering issues and the impact of engineering decisions.
ENGI 2334: Introduction to Thermodynamics
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: CHEM 1331 or CHEM 1372, MATH 2433, and PHYS 1322.
Fundamental concepts, thermodynamic systems and applications, heat and
work, properties of pure substances, first and second laws of
thermodynamics.
ENGI 3301: Technology and Western Culture (formerly MECE 3301)
Cr.
3. (3-0). Prerequisite: junior standing. Open to all students who meet
the stated prerequisite. Focuses on technological foundations of
northern European culture, eighth century through the industrialization
of Europe and America. Reference to technological influences from
earlier Mediterranean and oriental civilizations.
