The College of Education is committed to the preparation of teachers, counselors, school and higher education administrators, and professionals for a wide variety of educational settings, including social agencies, business, and government. Because of the university's urban setting, students will have opportunities to work with learners in a wide variety of educational settings.
The College of Education is accredited by the State Board for Educator Certification(SEBC) and by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
The dietetics internship program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association.
Each of the two departments of the college focuses on a specific aspect of professional education. Two departments offer undergraduate degrees. The major entitled Interdisciplinary Studies is housed within the Curriculum and Instruction Department. Two majors, Health and Human Development and Family Studies are housed in the Educational Psychology Department.
