Undergraduate students who wish to be certified at the Fourth through Eighth grade (4-8) level in one of the subject areas (Math, English, social Studies, or Science) should choose to major in Interdisciplinary Studies.
These certifications from the State Board for Educator Certification and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education qualify students to teach in the public schools. Additionally, it provides a basis for graduate training and research.
Students pursue certification in coordination with the teacher preparation program, QUEST (Quality Urban Education for Students and Teachers), which readies undergraduate students to be certified as teachers in a variety of fields.
