INDS 1360: Visual Thinking
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: architecture or industrial design major, or approval of the dean. Students are recommended to take this course in advance of INDS 2500. Visual thinking and visualization processes using diverse materials and media. Emphasis on creative and critical thinking through hands-on drawing exercises and explorations.

INDS 2340: Visual Communication I
Cr. 3. (1-6). Prerequisite: INDS major or consent of instructor. Seeing, understanding and communicating objects and seeing basic relationships analytically. Design drawing workshop introducing perspective, light source, shade, and fundamental rendering techniques.

INDS 2341: Visual Communication II
Cr. 3. (1-6). Prerequisite: INDS 2340. Understanding visual language and creative design problem solving with two-dimensional software programs, including Adobe Illustrator and PhotoShop.

INDS 2355: Design History I
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: ENGL 1304 or equivalent and sophomore standing. Survey of the history of design and art from the age of the industrial revolution to the postwar period with emphasis on the influence of cultural, philosophical, and technical forces.

INDS 2360: Materials and Methods I
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: INDS major or consent of instructor. Survey of materials, processes, techniques, and equipment commonly used in the manufacture of products. Introduction to processes of industrialized production and their influences on design.

INDS 2361: Materials and Methods II
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: INDS 2360. Survey of advanced materials, processes, techniques, and equipment commonly used in the manufacture of products. Investigation of manufacturing processes involved with plastics and prototyping techniques.

INDS 2397: Selected Topics
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: consent of college advisor and instructor. May be repeated for credit when topics vary.

INDS 2500: Industrial Design Studio III
Cr. 5. (2-9). Prerequisites: ARCH 1500 and ARCH 1501 and consent of the dean. Basic problem solving with an emphasis on the relationship between form and function.

INDS 2501: Industrial Design Studio IV
Cr. 5. (2-9). Prerequisite: INDS 2500. Development of creative design problem solving with appropriate design processes. Students must pass a portfolio review to successfully complete the course and to proceed to INDS 3500.

INDS 3340: Computer Aided Industrial Design
Cr. 3. (2-3). Prerequisites: INDS 2340 and INDS 2341 or consent of instructor. Three-dimensional modeling and rendering: rapid prototyping technology in digital modeling.

INDS 3341: Design Interface
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: INDS major or consent of instructor. Complex information data and its interface in design. Information architecture and interaction design as conceptual tools to developing creative interfaces.

INDS 3360: Human Factors
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: INDS major or consent of instructor. Survey of anthropometry, perception, and man-machine interface. Focuses on the use and application of existing human factors to case studies.

INDS 3365: Design Research Methods
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: INDS major or consent of instructor. Theories and methods of design research. Emphasis on quantitative and qualitative research methods and their applications.

Cr. 5. (2-9). Prerequisite: INDS 2501. Diverse research methods of identifying human perceptions and behaviors to explore creative design ideas for user-centered design.

INDS 3501: Industrial Design Studio VI
Cr. 5. (2-9). Prerequisite: INDS 3500. Integration of diverse design methods and techniques to develop innovative products. Analysis of product content and context, including social, cultural, and environmental elements.

INDS 4180: Design Internship
Cr. 1. (0-3). Prerequisites: INDS 3500 and prior written approval from the dean. Application of design knowledge and techniques through work experience at design consultancies or related companies. Requires employer evaluation.

Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: INDS 3501. Reading discussions of important design issues, ideas, trends, movements, and criticism in contemporary ideas to understand the relationship of design to society and culture.

INDS 4361: e-Portfolio
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: INDS 4500 or consent of instructor. Establishing a visual language reflecting a designers’ aesthetics by creating an innovative e-portfolio. Understanding the principles of basic Web layout and developing creative presentation skills with multimedia technology.

INDS 4365: Design Practice and Business
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: INDS 4500 and INDS 4360. Comprehensive aspects of design practice including planning and managing design projects.   Legal and ethical issues associated with the design practice and product development.

INDS 4380: Design Internship
Cr. 3. Prerequisites: INDS 3501 and prior written approval from the dean. Application of design knowledge and techniques through work experience at design consultancies or related companies.   Requires employer evaluation.

INDS 4500: Industrial Design Studio VII
Cr. 5. (2-9). Prerequisite: INDS 3501. Systematic process of generating and solving a design problem.   Emphasizes interdisciplinary learning through complex design problems in selected industries.

INDS 4501: Industrial Design Studio VIII
Cr. 5. (2-9). Prerequisite: INDS 4500. Continuation of INDS 4500. Student's design process and final design are presented at the juried graduation exhibition.
