The School of Theatre, which includes the Division of Dance, offers the Bachelor of Arts in theatre, minors in theatre and dance, and teacher certification in theatre and dance.

Bachelor of Arts

Students majoring in theatre must complete the university core requirements, the HFAC college requirements, and elect to follow one of the four tracks: theatre generalist, acting/directing, design/technical, and dance. Consult the appropriate track for major requirements listed below. Transfer students must consult with an undergraduate advisor concerning THEA 1111/ 1112 requirements and transfer credit.

Theatre Generalist Requirements

The Theatre Generalist track requires 51 hours of THEA courses, of which 21 must be advanced.

The Design/Technical track requires 54 hours THEA courses, of which 27-30 must be advanced.

Minor in Dance

A minor in dance requires:

  1. Completion of 14 semester hours including:

  3. At least nine semester hours of minor taken in residence, including at least six advanced.
  4. A 2.00 minimum grade point average on all dance courses attempted at UH.

Minor in Theatre

A minor in theatre requires:

  1. Completion of 15 semester hours including: Plus three advanced hours from:
  2. At least nine semester hours of minor taken in residence, including at least six advanced.
  3. A 2.00 minimum grade point average on all theatre courses attempted at UH.

Advanced Degrees

The University of Houston offers the Master of Arts and the Master of Fine Arts degrees in the School of Theatre.
