Executive Associate to the Chancellor/President
James E. Anderson is the executive associate to the chancellor of the University of Houston System and president of the University of Houston. He represents the chancellor and president in a wide range of external and internal university activities, serving as a liaison to communities, businesses, civic and governmental agencies; developing university partnerships and related academic activities and working with projects and initiatives in the Office of the Chancellor and President.
He has a B.A. in political science from the University of Kansas; an M.S. in Education from Kansas State Teachers College and a Ph.D. in Social Science Education from The Ohio State University. He has taught at secondary and post-secondary levels and has worked in various educational capacities and programs in school districts, communities, higher education institutions, government and civic agencies across the country. He also has international experience in Europe, Asia, Africa, Mexico and the Caribbean. He has been the director of the International Multicultural Education Institute at the University of Houston and was a member of various Fulbright Scholars National Selection Committees.
The major areas of his study, teaching, research and technical assistance have focused on the dynamics of culture as they relate to education with specific interest in curriculum, educational administration and leadership in multicultural environments, cultural diversity in the work place, and community relations. In his various roles as teacher, researcher, administrator and technical assistant, he is a nationally known educator and consultant for numerous educational and governmental agencies and has been the recipient of various honors and awards.
He is the author of various articles, papers, and monographs in his focus areas and was a co-editor of The Journal of Educational Equity and Leadership for five years. Anderson is a full-time university administrator previously with the College of Education where he was a tenured faculty member in the Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Studies. He is also a member and participant in various professional, civic, and social organizations at the local, state and national levels and resides in Houston, Texas.
