AAS provides technical support to existing and proposed student groups. Students are encouraged to join and/or establish academic groups for educational and social support. These groups often bring renowned speakers from various areas to campus to share informaion on cutting edge issues in their fields of expertise.



AAS Minors' Association

This is a registered student organization that is designed to create and offer support mechanisms for students at the University who have decided to minor in African American Studies. This organization seeks to provide the following services:

  • Offer support mechanisms to AAS minors
  • Serve as recruiters for future AAS minors
  • Educate the University population about the African American Studies Program
  • Educate the Unviersity population about the history and culture of African Americans.


    Black Women's Leadership Group

    This registered student group seeks to promote leadership among African American women on campus. Participants in the group meet regularly toiscuss general women's issues such as building self esteem, handling sexual harassment, and developing good communication skills. The group represents a diverse student population of lower and upper division, young and older female students from various discipline areas.
