Mission

The mission of the Institute for African American Policy Research is to be a resource for policy decision makers, scholars, and program planners to assist in the collection, promotion, and dissemination of data, information, and research on demographic, social, political, economic, and cultural issues pertaining to African Americans in Houston, Texas, the Southwest, and throughout the nation.

Resources and Services Available

Data and information on demographic and social conditions of African Americans in Houston derived from existing data sources, including U.S. Census, Houston Health and Human Services Department, Houston Police Department, Houston Independent School District, and other local organizations.

References and contact information on other sources of data for topics regarding African Americans in Houston and nationally including education, health, population characteristics, economics and employment, crime, substance abuse, housing, transportation, civil rights and discrimination, and public opinion and attitudes.

Guidance and technical assistance in using data and information for developing needs statements and evaluation sections of funding proposals.

Guidance and assistance to non-profit organizations in identifying and pursuing potential funding sources for programs and research on issues of policy impact to African Americans.

Periodic seminars, sponsorship of research, and publication of studies on topics of policy impact to African Americans.
