Numerous events are being planned for the 2001-2002 academic year as part of the official University of Houston 75th Anniversary Celebration. To kick-off the festivities in grand style, the Houston Alumni Organization honored the Cullen family at the annual Red and White Ball, on Friday, September 21.
- Monday, April 8, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Unity Day sponsored by the Council of Ethnic Organizations featuring art displays, food samples, and entertainment (location to be announced).
- Tuesday, April 9, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. –“Buzz Buffet” sponsored by 94.5 KTBZ-FM, Mission Burritos, and the UH Office of University
Marketing, featuring music and refreshments. For faculty, staff, and
students only.
- Wednesday, April 10 – “Wear Red Day” in honor of the university’s 75th anniversary.
- Wednesday, April 10, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. – “UH through the Decades: Celebrating 75 Years of Learning and Leading,” campus-wide “party at the fountain” with food, music, and prizes to commemorate the university's 75th anniversary. At the Cullen Family Plaza, for faculty, staff, students, and alumni only.Click here for a list of donors and sponsors.
- Thursday, April 11, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. – “Our Time” book signing at the UH bookstore in the University Center. Purchase UH’s 75th anniversary commemorative book for the special price of $34.95 and have it signed by the authors. The books make an ideal graduation gift.
- Thursday, April 11 – Houston Alumni Organization Annual Awards Dinner at the Hilton University of Houston Hotel. Reception at 7 p.m., dinner and program at 8 p.m. HAO will be honoring recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award, Distinguished Service Award, and the President’s Award.
- Thursday, April 11, 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. – “Wet and Wild, UH Style Spring Fling 2002,” sponsored by the UH Student Program Board, the event will run through April 13. Opening night activities include a mixer, a celebrity look-alike contest and other activities. Event will be held at the UC Arbor.
- Friday, April 12, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. – “UH Student Program Board Takes Over MTV,” part of Spring Fling 2002, at the University Center Houston Room.
- Saturday, April 13, Noon to 4:00 p.m. – Last Spring Fling 2002 event featuring a fashion show, live music, games, and many other activities, at Robertson Stadium.
- Wednesday, April 17, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. – “President’s Report to the Community,” President Arthur K. Smith’s report to the city of Houston. At the Hyatt Regency, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. individual tickets are $25, table of 10 is $250. Please call the Office of Special Events at 713-743-8166 to make reservations.
